Wale Shark Conservation

I read the article, Wale Shark Conservation. This article was about taking pictures of sharks and finding new studies about tracking them. We can track these movements of the sharks by seeing pictures of them. The study looked at 100 of images taken by vacationers that scientists were studying and looking at, by looking at these photos they were able to track the sharks. A scientist Davies, hopes that this will give the public a new look at these Wale Sharks and confidence to use this free source of data.
The significance of this article is to get new research for sharks, it was very interesting to see how they are gathering research now by pictures taken by tourists and how by these photos they are able to track these sharks. They are focusing on collecting photographs from tourists for their research.
This article was great to read, it increased by knowledge and was definitely interesting to read. I do think it could have used a little more information, I was confused on how this wale shark was of any importance to humanity, but I was able to figure it out. I also wish there was more quotes from the scientists because there was only 1 or 2 from Davies. Overall I thought that article was great and I really enjoyed reading it.

  1. My peer Peyton wrote a very well written commentary on the article Wale Shark Conservation, this article is about taking pictures of sharks and finding new studies about tracking them. There were many intriguing facts but there are three that stand out. The first interesting fact was how the study looked at 100 of images taken by vacationers that scientists were studying and looking at, by looking at these photos they were able to track the sharks. The second most interesting fact was how they are gathering research now by pictures taken by tourists and how by these photos they are able to track these sharks. The third fact was how they are focusing on collecting photographs from tourists for their research. The things she could have fixed were to include a little bit more about the article. The second thing to fix would be to introduce the article better. Overall it was a well written commentary and the most interesting fact about was A scientist Davies, hopes that this will give the public a new look at these Wale Sharks. I hope it does.

  2. I read my classmate Peyton’s review on the article Wale Shark Conservation. The article talked about new studies on the way to track sharks. There was a couple of aspects in her review that were particular well presented. One aspect Peyton did well was she gave key data such as, that scientist used 100 photos taken by vacationers as data to track the sharks. Another thing she did, was that she told the reader what the head scientist of the project Davies wishes to do once the experiment is completed. In addition, Peyton did a great job at choosing an interesting topic and made me want to learn more about this.
Even though Peyton did a great job there could be a couple improvements made on her review. One thing I didn’t like about it was that she didn’t really summaries her article and it felt rushed. This made it difficult for me to really understand how the research by scientists was being conducted. Also, she could have include a couple of quotes from the article she read. This would make her review a little more interesting and not so boring.
Overall Peyton’s review was well written and before reading it I did not know that scientist were attempting to track sharks by using photos taken by vacationers.

  3. I read my fellow classmate, Peyton, review of the article "Whale Shark Conservation." I really liked many of the aspects of Peyton's article. First off, I like how Peyton included specific information from the text, such the fact that the scientists used 100 photographs. Moreover, I really liked Peyton's critique of the article because I found it to be very accurate. I found myself wanting to know more information on the topic, but the article was too vague. Finally, Peyton did a great job of adding the scientist's view on what this article means. For example, Davies, the scientist, said that she hopes this discovery will give the public a new look of whale sharks.
Although this review was good, there are a few things Peyton could do better for next time. First off, Peyton included a lot about what the scientists need to track the sharks, but she never included how the sharks can be tracked. I found myself wondering how scientists can track sharks by looking at their picture. Second, Peyton should have defined and explained unfamiliar words and animals. For instance, Peyton should have described what a whale shark looks like and at least added a picture.
The most interesting part of the article was how scientists can track sharks by looking at a picture. It seems impossible to me, but with all the technology, anything seems possible.

  4. My classmate Peyton Elder wrote a fantastic review on the article “Wale Shark Conservation.” While reading this review some specific things really stood out to me. First off I think Peyton did a good job in writing the review, it was an easy read, and had a nice flow to it. I also liked how Peyton critiqued the actual article, this showed how she closely examined the article, and understood everything that was happening. The last thing that I really enjoyed about the review was how Peyton explained the significance of the article, and why it was important. There were some things that Peyton could have done to make the review better; for starters, she could have summarized the actual article better. Her summary was brief, and did not go in to much detail. Also Peyton could have included why she decided to choose an article on sharks, is she interested in sharks, or did she just want to learn more about them. I found it very interesting how scientists were able to track the sharks by just looking at different images, this just shows us how much of an impact technology has on our world. All and all I thought Peyton did a great job on this review, and I took away a lot of new knowledge.

  6. My classmate, Peyton Elder, wrote a fantastic review on the article, “Wale Shark Conservation.” In this review she talks about the apparent movement to conserve the wale shark. Three things well presented in this review were her use of the original article. Peyton explained the topic quite well and gave a good background. Peyton also added a lot from what the original scientist had said, which added accuracy and authenticity. This review could have been made better if Peyton had included the process with which the scientists count the population of the whale sharks. She also could have introduced the article instead of rushing into it. The thing that I enjoyed most in this review was the actual topic. I believe that this is horrible that the whale sharks may be losing some of their population. This could affect everyone on the planet if this species were to die off.

  7. My peer Peyton Elder wrote a nice review on the article, Wale Shark Conservation. There were three areas where Peyton expressed successfully. The first area was that she really spoke about what she thought. She gave her ideas and thoughts. The second was that she gave a simple summary of the article that made sense to the reader. The third aspect was that she worded her writing in a way that made the reader think about what they were reading to a point that they had to stop reading (For me at least).
Although there were good aspects about Peyton’s review, there were also bad aspects. There were two to be exact. The first has to do with her summary. Although it was short and simple, it would have been better had it had some more information on what was being studied. The second aspect was that she could have chosen some quotas from the article. This would have made the review pop more.
One interesting aspect I learned from this was the all the scientist can track and identify each shark by just looking at a picture. I know I wouldn’t be able to.

  8. My classmate Peyton read an interesting article called, “Whale Shark Conservation” that discussed the studying of whale sharks through photographs. One thing that I liked that she was able to do was decipher the importance of this article by using the sparse about of facts that were included in the article. This is not something that is easy to do, especially when linking it with the importance for all of humanity. Secondly, I liked how she included important facts from the article, such as how the studies are carried out and who collected and observed the data. Mentioning the scientist Davies and saying how the people can easily help with these studies was interesting and important to tell the reader. Lastly, I liked how Peyton chose an article that would be of interest to teens and something that they can get involved in as well. Some articles that are chosen are usually aimed for a certain category of people that like specific scientific studies. With this article, it broadens the appeal because it mentions how average people with no scientific knowledge can help with studies by taking a simple picture on a family vacation. However, there were a few things that Peyton could have done to make her article more understandable. For example, the article didn’t provide a lot of information, so the choice of article most likely wasn’t the best. Although the topic was interesting, the article itself wasn’t full of helpful information. Also, the reasoning behind the need to study this specific breed of sharks wasn’t mentioned, making the article a little confusing to understand. The most interesting fact that was said in the article was how scientist can use simple pictures to learn more about whale sharks. This is fascinating because I cannot understand how that could be done and it could possible open a whole other universe for studies

  9. I read the article summary of the article, “Wale Shark Conservation”, done by Peyton. One thing that was done very well was that Peyton gave the scientists point of view by saying this, hopes that this will give the public a new look at these Wale Sharks and confidence to use this free source of data”. Another thing that was done well was she was honest with her point of view. She explained to us that she does not really think that this new discovery is all that important to the world but still thought it was interesting to read. Finally I thought that the direct facts from the actual article enhanced the summary and our understanding of the information. For example when she said that looked at 100 images taken by vacationers. This allows the reader to be more engaged in the topic.
There were some weaknesses to the review however. For instance it was extremely short. I feel as if though this was an interesting topic and if the reader could learn more it would be more satisfying. Another thing was that many details were left unclear. For example the method as to how these sharks are tracked down.
I thought it was extremely interesting that from a single picture scientists are able to track these wale sharks. Overall it was a very cool topic to read about and I think Peyton did a very good job.

  10. My classmate Peyton wrote an interesting review on the article “Wale Shark Conversation”. It discusses how scientists observe wale sharks and track the path of them through photographs. Peyton did a good job on analyzing the reason why we interested in it and care about this new findings. She said it was for people to know more about this animal that lived in the deep ocean. I think it’s great to open a new area for us to study. Peyton also wrote a good comment in the last paragraph about what she think about the original article. Her critical comments are very straight forward and I really agree with her on using more information and giving more quotes or photographs. Throughout the review, Peyton’s passion and her interests of the topic is obvious and I really enjoyed it.
Although Peyton wrote a very good review, there’s few things I suggest to improve. First, as she said, there’re little quotes, she might want to include these few but important quotes in her review and make it more informed. She can also include some photographs of wale sharks or pictures of scientist working on taking pictures. It would be more interesting and attractive to readers.
I was really surprised that scientists are able to figure out the path of movement by only photographs. And I hope in the future, there are more pictures and videos.

  11. My classmate Peyton wrote a review on the article, "Whale shark conservation." Peyton did a fantastic job writing this article, she made the information very easy to read and was able to prove her view effectively. For example, the way that scientists are gathering research now by pictures taken by tourists and how by these photos they are able to track these sharks. She also organized her ideas nicely and she summarized the article in only a few sentences. Peyton showed information on how this event is significant to later science discoveries.
Two things that I think Peyton could have improved on were that she could have added a quote from the article or he could have added a bit more length to it. Throughout the entire article, Peyton had one quote from Mrs. Davies, a scientist. This paper could have been improved if she had added one or two more quotes from different scientists. One thing that I found that was interesting was that the whale shark is now known as the world’s biggest fish. Overall, Peyton did a good job on this review and showing her point of view effectively.

  12. My classmate Peyton reviewed the article, “Whale Shark conservation” Peyton did a great job reviewing the article. First off I feel it had dome voice to it I really understood where she was coming from. Also the way she presented the information was really interesting, I feel like she really knew what she was talking about.
She did a great job although there is a small problem with the review. First off Peyton repeatedly spells whale shark, “wale shark”. Also she doesn’t explain how the pictures relate to the research and studies of the Whale sharks, perhaps some background information could clear that up.
I found it very interesting that the tourists were able to lend data to the scientists just by giving them photos, I think that is an interesting development.

  13. My classmate Peyton did a great job on her review of the article “Wale Shark Conservation.” She presented many things well and overall did a great job. One thing she did well, was input key data from the article into the review. For instance, she added 100 key photos taken by vacationers were studied to help find sharks. Another thing she did well, was talk about where the head scientists wants to take this research. For example, Davies, the head scientist, hopes this will give the public a new look at these wale sharks and confidence to use this free source of data. Lastly, Peyton did a great job when she gave her honest opinion to the world. She says she was confused how the wale shark is important to humanity, but yet it was still interesting to read. Although her review was good, there are some things she could do to make it better. First, she could have expanded on her summary of the article, because it is a little short. Second, she could have chosen some quotes from the article. One thing that caught my eye was that scientists can track sharks just by looking at photos.

  14. My classmate Peyton did a good job an her summary of the article "Wale Shark Conversation." She did a good job relaying the information of the article to us. She also made all of the ideas of the article clear. And lastly she did a good job taking the information and thinking about her own thoughts towards the article.
Although she did a great job summarizing the article she had a few problems. She keeps talking about some pictures that she saw. But she could have put the pictures on the blog. Secondly she kept spelling whale wrong throughout the article. Seeing it spelled wrong throughout the article sort of took away the full attention to the main idea of the article's message.
Although she made some mistakes I found the article very interesting all around. One thing that I learned was that the whale shark is the biggest fish there is.
