Glaciers: Quick response to temperature change

In the article, “Glaciers: Quick response to temperature change,” the author talks of how glaciers can either melt or grow due to shifts in temperature. It also says that with new research scientists have come to the conclusion, as stated in the article that, “ice sheets reacted rapidly in the past to cooling or warming, raising concerns that they could do so again as the Earth heats up.”  The article also explains that these ice sheets are very sensitive to any changes in the temperature.
The important message from this article, the fact that glaciers are becoming more and more susceptible to changes in temperature and that ice sheets are either melting or growing from these changes in weather, is important to everyone today because, as we recently learned in class, glaciers hold the majority of fresh water in our world.
This article was extremely interesting and contains important information that everyone deserves to know about. The article contains many quotes and insight from scientist from both the experiment and others who contain opinions on the topic. The author of the article also adds the perfect amount of explanation for how the scientists came to this conclusion, but also could have added some more actual data from the finds.

  1. My classmate Mary reviewed the article, "Glaciers: Quick response to temperature change." Mary did an excellent job in summarizing her article. When I clicked on the article link and read it, Mary had successfully mentioned all of the key points in her review. Mary also did a great job explaining how this relates to our world today. It is crazy to think that these things thousands of miles away are affecting all places of the world. Finally, Mary's opinion of the article was similar to mine. I agree that the article was interesting and that it contains the perfect amount of explanation for conclusion. Maybe for next time, Mary can work on making her review just a tad longer. And she can also work on bridging sentences between paragraphs. One fact that really surprised me was how sensitive these ice sheets are. It is remarkable that in that size, they are easily subject to change. Overall, Mary did a great job of reviewing this article.

  2. I read the article review “Glaciers: Quick Response to Temperature Change” by my classmate Mary Clare Connor. It was about how glaciers have changed based on temperature shifts in the past and will again in the future. Mary took the method of creating a short review, but still displaying the essence of the article and its information. Mary put the main points in the article, making it short and sweet. This made it easier to read and more interesting. Mary also related the information back to our class, which made it more relatable. Mary also included a quote from the article in her review. This verified her information very well and is an important skill to possess. Although it is a very good review, Mary could do some things to make it even better. She could have added more information about the glacier’s changes in the first paragraph. This would have helped us understand the glaciers’ changes even more. Mary could have also worked on ways to bridge her paragraphs together. Despite minor improvements that could be made, Mary’s review shows an important topic. It is amazing how glaciers, which are so massive, can be changed by such small changes in temperature. Overall, Mary’s review was very interesting and worth the read.

  3. My classmate Mary Clare did a great job on her review on the article “Glaciers: Quick Response to Temperature Change.” One thing Mary Clare did well was having a quick and concise summary. It was not too short so the reader did not understand the article, but it was also not too long to bore the reader. A second thing Mary Clare did well was give a quote from a scientist in the article. This helps to give an opinion, which gives another side to this topic. A third thing Mary Clare did well was show how this article is important for anyone reading it. She says the important message to take from this article is that glaciers are becoming more and more susceptible. Although Mary Clare’s review was good, there are a few things she could do to make it even better. First, she could have had better bridging topic sentences because the paragraphs seem to different. However, a simple sentence could easily fix this. Second, Mary Clare could have added some more details from the article to get the facts in there and make it flow better. One thing I learned from reading this article is that these ice sheets are melting but from changes in the weather. However, one thing that confused me is how much is the temperature changing? Overall, Mary Clare did a great job on her review of the article “Glaciers: Quick Response to Temperature Change.”
