Brendan Walsh

I read the article “Solar Plane’s Pilot Describes ‘Revolutionary’ Flight,” by Denise Chow. This article is about the first solar plane to fly across America. The plane’s name is Solar Impulse, and it has a cursing speed around 53 mph. This solar plane can fly day or night, and it uses absolutely no fuel. The creator of this idea is Bertrand Piccard, who is a big believer in promoting clean technologies. The idea of this cross-country flight is to promote clean technologies, and hopefully start something that could be very beneficial to our world. The plane runs on solar panels which collect energy, the solar panels are spread out along the wings.” Theoretically, you can fly forever with the airplane," Piccard said. This trip is part of an initiative called “Clean Generation,” Piccard and his crew wants to make a difference in the world. Their main goal is to increase support and awareness about clean technology, and what a difference it can make.
As of right now we do not have the means to make solar panel commercial planes, but it is something to work towards in the future. This could without doubt be the start of something monumental.
I thought the author did a great job writing this article, I felt well informed, and took away a lot of new knowledge. I honestly have nothing to critique about what the author said.

  1. I read my classmate Brendan Walsh’s review on the article “Solar Plane’s Pilot Describes ‘Revolutionary’ Flight,” by Denise Chow. Brendan wrote a nice review that I found interesting and enjoyable. He did a good job at summarizing the article and only includes key information in it. Also I like how Brendan pointed out that as of right no we do not have the means to make solar panel commercial planes, but it is something to work towards in the future. In addition, I enjoyed how Brendan critiqued the actual article.
Although Brendan’s review was good he could make a few improvement on it. I found his review to be a little short and with not much detail in it. If Brendan used more quotes from the article there would have been more details. Another thing he could do is give more information on this new solar plane such as, how large it is and what its average flying altitude is.
Overall Brendan wrote a great review that consisted of interesting information on this fascinating topic. Before reading this review I did not think it was possible for a plane to be powered by solar panels.

  2. I read the review of the article “Solar Plane’s Pilot Describes ‘Revolutionary’” by my classmate Brendan Walsh. It is about how this one scientist, Bertrand Piccard, created a plane that runs on solar energy and how he is flying across the country. It is an amazing feat, as solar planes have never been used for that long. Brendan chose to put the main ideas of the article in his review, which worked very well and got the point of the article across. It is sometimes good to not put too many unimportant points, as it can confuse the reader. Brendan was also able to explain how the solar plane is a big step forward for clean energy. This is one of the main points of Brendan’s review, as it is the most important part of the article. Brendan also pointed out that this does not mean that all planes will soon be solar-powered, but it is instead the first step towards something very important and monumental. This is important to recognize. Although it was a good review, there are things Brendan could important to improve on. For example, Brendan could talk about how the plane works and maybe the history of solar flight. Brendan could also improve by taking more information from the article itself. The article had a lot more information, which is interesting and should have been included in the review, like how Piccard flew across the world in a hot air balloon in 1999. This, along with many other details, is very interesting and could greatly improve the review. Other than this, the article is very good. One thing that amazes me is how important this will be for flying. It is very similar to the Wright brother’s first flight. Solar planes would solve many problems in the commercial airline business and even bring down ticket prices. Overall, Brendan chose a very good topic to write about and had a good review to accompany it.

  3. My peer Brendan wrote a summary on the article “Solar Plane’s Pilot Describes ‘revolutionary’ Flight” by Denis Chow. Three things that I found interesting were how the plane being used can gain up to 53 mph, amazing! The second thing is that the plane runs on the solar panels which are spread on the wings. The third thing is that even though it is run on solar energy it can fly at any time. The two things he could fix would be to include more of his opinion about the article. The second thing would be to introduce the article a little better. The most interesting thing that I found astonishing was that this could lead to cleaner travel, less polluted air. Overall his summary of this article was very interesting!

  4. I read my classmate Brendan's review on the article "Solar Plane's Pilot Describes Revolutionary Flight" by Denis Chow. I thought that Brendan's review was very well done. First off, Brendan did a great job of providing a lot of detail. For example, Brendan states that the solar panels are placed on the wings of the plane. Second, Brendan added a great quote from the article, which stated that the solar plane could theoretically run forever. Lastly, Brendan did a good job on how this impacts society because he was honest. He stated that the US does not have enough money to start making the solar planes, but solar planes are a possibility in the future. Although Brendan's review was very well done, there are a few things that Brendan could have done better. For example, Brendan should have added his own opinion into the critique or in the section about the impact of the discovery. Moreover, Brendan should have provided more statistical details, such as how many solar planes exist and how long they take to make. One thing I found extremely interesting about this article is that these planes use solar energy and no fuel, but can still travel up to 53 mph.

  5. My classmate, Brendan Walsh, did a review on the article “Solar Plane’s Pilot Describes ‘Revolutionary. ’” An aspect of this review that I thought Brendan presented especially well was the way that he explained the article. This allowed the reader to understand the premise of it. Brendan also added his own opinion to the article and made it clear where he stood. Brendan also summarized the article very well. Two things Brendan could have done to improve this could be, he could add more detail, which were missing in this vague review, and Brendan also could have used more quotes or something from the original article. One thing that I found especially interesting was how much this could impact our world today, because of the popularity of flying.
